Lead Case Worker
Position Requirements:
Must have a degree in a social service field, such as, Human Development and Family Sciences, Public Health, Sociology, and Psychology. This person must have work or volunteer experience with youth dealing with homelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, self harm, depression, behavior issues, etc. Must be able to work 1-2 permanent shifts a week. This person must pass a background check, allowing them to work one on one with youth and families.
Have full coverage insurance on personal motor vehicle to transport youth, be certified in CPR/First Aid and Oregon Food Handlers certification, and any other trainings/certifications that will help with completing Lead Case Worker duties. This person must have a good working relationship with all staff and be respected as a leader in the work environment.
Position Duties:
- Must be able to work A,B, C shifts all days of the week.
- Being a role model for shelter residents and other youth by displaying positive interpersonal communication and positive youth development strategies
- Being a role model for staff by participating in weekly staff meetings, trainings, and following (knowing and understanding) ALL shelter policies and procedures
- Responsible for shift supervision (make sure all tasks are completed, files/logs are filled out appropriately, and all staff/youth are behaving)
- Helps supervise volunteers working shifts or leading activities and reporting any problems to the Shelter Director or Development Assistant
- Assists Shelter Director with youth individual service plans, goals, accessing services, checking school attendance, personal contracts, service meetings, behavioral plans, individualized education plans, and schedules
- Maintain training and knowledge in Positive Youth Development (PYD), Life Span Crisis Intervention (LSCI) or Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills, and case management
- Take lead in completing special projects around shelter
- Act as Weekend On-Call when needed
- Lead Resident House Meeting
- Active participant in weekly treatment team meetings
- Plan and implement a learning group activity for the residents
- Participates in all shelter activities (preparing dinner, activities, groups, cleaning, homework time, outings, crisis intervention, family/peer mediation, intakes, check outs, etc.)
- All duties given on On-Call Case Worker, Case Worker, and Overnight Case Worker job descriptions
- Other duties as assigned by Shelter Director
Lead Case Workers report directly to the Shelter Director.
Overnight Case Worker
Position Requirements:
Some combination of related college course work and work experience with youth, shelter, social service agencies, and positive youth development. The candidate who is bi-lingual and has experience working directly with youth would be particularly well qualified. ALL JSYSI employees must pass a criminal history check and be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings. Must be able to make a commitment to employment with JSYSI for at least one year. Must have current certification in first aid/CPR and Oregon Food Handlers.
Position Duties:
- Act as a role model for staff and shelter residents of positive interpersonal communication and positive youth development strategies
- Maintain data and data entry (upon request) for all shelter residents in daily log and personal resident files
- Provide supervision by doing bed checks of residents every fifteen minutes
- Provide supervision and implementation of early morning shelter activities, which may include preparing breakfast, getting residents ready for school/appointments, completing and supervising morning chores, maintaining schedules, checking attendance, or working with legal guardians and service providers
- Performing overnight duties needed to maintain the facility and shelter operation, house chores, daily “to-do” items, and special projects assigned by supervisor
- Attend mandatory staff meeting
- Attend mandatory trainings
- Assist youth to access appropriate services to meet goals, as needed
- Other duties as assigned by Shelter Director
Overnight Case Workers reports directly to the Shelter Director
Case Worker

- Conduct intake interviews and initial assessments of youth entering services
- Conduct check out interviews and form completion
- Maintain shelter and youth files and logs with professional documentation
- Constructively problem solve and mediate youth and family crisis
- Implement and participate in daily shift and shelter activities
- Actively teach life skills to youth being served through preparing meals, helping with laundry, supervising morning and evening chores, conducting homework time, etc.
- Help and support youth in continually working on their goals and make progress toward a more successful future
- Assist residents to access appropriate and needed community resources and services
- Help maintain the physical appearance of the shelter by cleaning up messes made on your shift and completing necessary chores before shift change
- Other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director
