On-Call Caseworker

Position Requirements:
Some combination of related college course work and work experience with youth, shelters, social service agencies, and positive youth development. The candidate who is bi-lingual and has experience working directly with youth would be particularly well qualified. ALL JSYSI employees must pass a criminal history check and be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings. Must have current certification in first aid/CPR and Oregon Food Handlers. An understanding that this position may not have permanent shifts at any time during employment. An ability to be available all hours of the day and work all shifts (A, B, C) and make a commitment to being employe with JSYSI for at least one year.

Position Duties:

  • Remain available, by phone, all hours of the day to pick up shifts
  • Consistently check Time Off Request forms for available shifts to cover
  • Attend mandatory staff meeting (weekly) and trainings (as scheduled)
  • Act as a role model for staff and shelter residents of positive interpersonal communication and positive youth development strategies
  • Conduct intake interviews and assessments of youth and families accessing shelter services
  • Conduct check out interviews
  • Maintain all resident/staff files and logs
  • Provide supervision of shelter and youth residing in shelter during your shifts
  • Participate in all shelter activities (preparing meals with residents, homework time, recreational outings, in-house activities and presentations, etcetera)
  • Assist and help the youth to continually work on their goals while accessing appropriate services to achieve the goals and future plans
  • Remain confident in your skills to constructively problem solve and provide crisis intervention amongst youth, families, agencies, and staff
  • Help maintain the physical appearance of shelter by cleaning up messes made on your shift, completing necessary chores, and supervising residents in completing assigned chores
  • Consistently complete resident bed checks (every 15 minutes or less) when working bed time hours
  • Provide structure for early morning shelter activities (preparing breakfast, getting residents ready for school/appointments, coordinating transportation, supervising morning chores, and communicating with legal guardians/service providers
  • Complete the graveyard checklist when working overnight shifts
  • Remain awake during your entire shift
  • Other duties as assigned by Shelter Director
